Karen G. Lowell Attorney

Karen G. Lowell devotes her career to the representation of injured workers before the State Board of Workers’ Compensation and appellate courts. With nearly a decade of active practice and a decade of total workers’ compensation experience—including a formative clerkship and part-time work at Swift Currie during law school—Karen brings substantial courtroom experience and a sophisticated understanding of complex workers’ compensation cases.

Education

Karen’s commitment to injured workers is both professional and personal. She earned her Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law in 2017, where she served on Law Review and was active in the Public Interest Law Association. During law school, she clerked at Swift Currie and worked part-time there through her third year, gaining deep exposure to workers’ compensation litigation. Before law school, Karen’s experience volunteering and interning at World Relief, a Christian refugee humanitarian organization in Clarkston, Georgia, profoundly shaped her commitment to legal advocacy. She was inspired by meeting families navigating systems of complexity and hardship—a mission that directly led her to pursue law.

Karen received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia in 2012, majoring in International Affairs with a minor in Anthropology.

Accomplishments

Karen has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star—a distinction awarded to less than 2.5% of attorneys under 40—from 2024 through 2026. She has been a dynamic speaker and thought leader on workers’ compensation issues, including 2022 CLE on “How to Handle a Georgia Workers’ Compensation Case from Beginning to End: Pretrial Practice & Administrative Conferences,” the 2025 SBWC Annual Educational Conference presentation “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: Unique Workers’ Compensation Exposure Cases,” and 2026 Atlanta Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section CLE on “Navigating the Workers’ Compensation Fee Schedule.”

Professional involvement

Karen holds memberships in the State Bar of Georgia, Atlanta Bar Association, Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG), Georgia Trial Lawyers Association Workers’ Compensation Section, Georgia Association for Women Lawyers, and ABA Young Lawyers Division. She actively participates in community service through the Atlanta Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, including the Empty Stocking Fund, and previously worked extensively with foster care youth through the Young Lawyers Division.

Her deep passion for community appears throughout her background. She grew up in the YMCA volunteering and in teen leadership programs, interning in the teen division after college. Her commitment to service—particularly in support of vulnerable and marginalized populations—remains central to both her professional and personal life.

Personal

Karen was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Alpharetta at age 3, where she has lived ever since. Her husband is Executive Pastor at Brookhaven Presbyterian Church. Karen’s interests include reading, hiking and exploring national parks, attending her children’s sporting events, gardening, running, and cooking new recipes.
