Don’t forget to report the accident to your supervisor and start a paper trail as soon as possible. Georgia and many other states have strict deadlines (statute of limitations) in order to qualify for workers’ compensation benefits.
After you report the incident and are receiving medical treatment, the process has started. Depending on circumstances, an injured worker should be entitled to receive the following compensation:
- Permanent disability benefits. Following medical treatment, your physician may determine that you suffer from a certain level of “permanent” impairment, which may allow you to qualify for permanent partial disability (PPD) benefits. PPD benefits are weekly payments that kick in when you are no longer receiving TTD or TPD wage replacement benefits. You may be able to get this payout even if you return to work.
- Death benefits. If an employee is killed while on the job, these benefits are paid to the worker’s dependents (child or spouse) to cover funeral costs and lost wages.
- Medical benefits. Your employer’s workers’ comp insurance should cover any expenses regarding medical diagnosis and treatment of a job-related injury. Emergency room, hospital and doctors visit bills should all be covered, as should prescriptions drugs and travel expenses (to and from medical care).
- Lost wages. Roughly two-thirds of your lost wages should be paid weekly, up to a certain cap. The two types of wage replacement benefits available are total temporary disability benefits (TTD) and total partial disability benefits (TPD).
Further additional benefits may be available for those who suffer amputations, hearing or vision loss.

About Marietta, Georgia
Marietta is in the northwest corner of Georgia. Located in Cobb County, Marietta is considered one of Atlanta’s largest suburbs with more than 61,000 people calling it home. While the mysterious origins of Marietta’s name is generally unknown, many believe that it was named after Mary Cobb, the wife of former U.S. Supreme Court judge and U.S. Senator Thomas Cobb.
Modern day Marietta was first developed by white settlers around 1824. By 1833, the town planners started laying out the cityscape with a large square in the center featuring a courthouse. The area grew quickly once it was selected as a hub for the Western & Atlantic Railroad. But a few years later, the hub was moved to the growing city of Atlanta.
Interestingly, a large portion of Marietta was destroyed by fire on 4 separate occasions in the 1850s and leading into the Civil War. The population growth was steady and held at the low thousands for many decades until around 1940, when it jumped from 8,660 to more than 20,000 in 1950.
