What benefits are available to Georgia workers hurt on the job?
As mentioned above, it’s vital that you report the accident to your manager and start a paper trail as soon as possible in order to qualify for workers’ compensation benefits. Once you report the incident and are receiving treatment, the process has officially started.
Depending on circumstances, a worker injured on the job could be entitled to receive the following compensation:
- Medical benefits. Your employer’s workers’ comp insurance should cover any expenses regarding medical diagnosis and treatment of a job-related injury. Emergency room, hospital and doctors visit bills should all be covered, as should prescription drugs and travel expenses (to and from medical care).
- Lost wages. Roughly two-thirds of your lost wages should be paid weekly, up to a certain cap. The two types of wage replacement benefits available are total temporary disability (TTD) and total partial disability (TPD) benefits.
- Permanent disability benefits. Following medical treatment, your physician may determine that you suffer from a certain level of “permanent” impairment, which may allow you to qualify for permanent partial disability (PPD) benefits. PPD benefits are weekly payments that kick in when you are no longer receiving TTD or TPD wage replacement benefits. You may be able to get this payout even if you return to work.
- Death benefits. If an employee is killed while on the job, these benefits are paid to the worker’s dependents (child or spouse) to cover funeral costs and lost wages.

About Stone Mountain, Georgia
The city of Stone Mountain, Georgia can trace its roots to a variety of North American tribes who built mounds around the base of the famous quartz monzonite dome monadnock from which the city gets its name. Stone Mountain stands just over 1,000 feet high. Before European settlers started migrating into the area, Creek Indians lived around the mountain. In 1821, the Treaty of Indian Springs granted access to large chunks of Georgia for settlement.
The village of Stone Mountain was officially founded in 1839, but the area was originally called Rock Mountain. In the 16th century, Spanish explorer Juan Pardo called the mound Crystal Mountain. Creek Indians named it Lone Mountain, and early settlers called it Rock Fort Mountain. The name Stone Mountain finally stuck in the 1830s.
The city of Stone Mountain is located on the eastern end of DeKalb County and is considered a suburb of Atlanta. Its population grew slowly through the 1800s and 1900s, hitting about 1,900 people by 1970. The town’s population more than doubled to 4,900 by 1980 due to increased availability of jobs in and around Atlanta. As of 2020, nearly 6,500 people call Stone Mountain home. The town has a vibrant historic presence and offers a small-town vibe in all of its available activities.
